(SHAWNEE, Okla.) – The Mabee-Gerrer Museum of Art in Shawnee is proud to announce free admission for June for all visitors thanks to generous support from the Avedis Foundation, BancFirst and St. Gregory’s Abbey.
The Museum’s permanent collections and special exhibitions offer a glimpse into more than 8,000 years of human history and culture from around the world. With art, artifacts and curiosities ranging from Oklahoma’s only mummy to the artworks of Francesco Barbieri and William Bouguereau, there is something to interest all ages.
“We’re incredibly thankful for the generous donors who are making it possible for more families to enjoy accessible, educational, and fun experiences at the Museum this summer,” said Dane Pollei, Director and Chief Curator of the Mabee-Gerrer Museum of Art. “We invite everyone to come as often as they like, bring friends and family, and take time to relax, discover, and learn something new.”
Through July 20, visitors can see the “Reflections on Water” special exhibit. This exhibition showcases a curated selection of artworks from the museum's permanent collection, spanning from the 17th century to contemporary pieces, all centered around the theme of water.
The Museum is also hosting a free concert series with local musicians in the outdoor courtyard every Thursday starting at 6:30 p.m. through June. June 5 features the Oklahoma Jazz Preserve, June 12 features Cello Conversations: Bach and Beyond with Thresa Swadley and James Vernon, June 19 features the Shawnee Little Theatre Musical Highlights and June 26 features Jacqueline Thomasson.
The Mabee-Gerrer Museum of Art is located at 1900 West MacArthur Street in Shawnee. Hours are Tuesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday from 1 to 4 p.m. For more information and admission pricing, visit MGMoA.org.
Founded in 1919, the Mabee-Gerrer Museum of Art in Shawnee is one of the oldest museums in the state of Oklahoma. The Museum features Egyptian, Greek and Roman objects, art from the Middle Ages and Renaissance through the early 20th century and special exhibitions.
