The City of Shawnee is excited to announce the launch of its first-ever Civic Leadership Academy, aimed at empowering City Commission candidates and citizens interested in a deeper understanding of municipal operations, challenges, and successes.

Spread across the evening hours of May 9, 16, and 23, the Shawnee Civic Leadership Academy offers a comprehensive curriculum designed to equip participants with the knowledge and skills necessary to effectively engage with local government processes and initiatives.
The academy’s a wide range of topics will include:

  • Municipal Governance –
    City Manager’s Office

  • Balancing a Budget –
    Finance Department

  • Loving Where You Live –
    Tourism, Expo, Airport, Parks & Recreation,
    and Code Enforcement

  • Developing Shawnee –
    Community Development, Building Permits, and Inspections

  • Responding to Growth –
    Engineering, Public Works, Geographic Information Systems, IT, and Human Resources

  • Keeping the Public Safe –
    Emergency Management, Fire, Police, 911 Dispatch, Animal Control, and Municipal Court

  • Get Involved & What’s Next –
    City Clerk’s Office, Civic Involvement
